The Vigil for Beautiful Altadena
Don't Miss it This Week – Plus, Key Deadlines This Month, the Altadena Resident Survey, and More
The Vigil for Beautiful Altadena
Join Us for The Vigil for Beautiful Altadena
Wednesday, March 5 at 6:00 PM
Let’s come together as a community to honor and uplift Altadena with an evening of reflection, unity, and inspiration. This special evening will include:
Local business owners and community members
Musical performances by Altadenans Rhythms of the Village, Aloe Blacc, Maya Jupiter, and Stuart Brawley
Aerial performance by Lisa-Marie Burnside
A remembrance of all we've lost
Plus, special speakers and guest appearances
With gratitude to our group admins Stuart Brawley and Daniel Harlow who generously have produced this event, including organizing our programming and streaming for the night.
Because so many of us have been displaced and scattered to the wind, this will be streamed live in our Beautiful Altadena Facebook group, on YouTube, and via Zoom and will also be available as a recording to watch after the live event.
RSVP in advance to join us live on Zoom
Stick around after the vigil to connect with neighbors online. See you there.
Important Deadlines this Month
It’s hard to believe this week will mark 8 weeks since the night that changed it all but time is flying by even if we aren’t ready and some critical deadlines are looming this month, some as soon as today. Mark your calendars and don’t miss out!
⦿ LA Region Small Business Relief Fund – Deadline March 2, 2025
Small Businesses and nonprofits with revenue of up to $6 million and less than 100 employees may be eligible to receive cash assistance grants from $2,000 to $25,000 depending on disaster impact.
⦿ LA Regional Worker Relief Fund – Deadline March 2, 2025
The County and City of Los Angeles and partners have launched the new LA Region Worker Relief Fund that helps workers impacted financially by the windstorm and wildfires by providing cash assistance grants of $2,000.
⦿ FEMA Financial Assistance – Deadline March 10, 2025
Everyone impacted by the disaster is eligible for $770 and should apply, if only to prevent others from using your information to make a claim.
⦿ SBA Disaster Home Loan – Deadline March 10, 2025
SBA disaster assistance is available for homeowners, renters, nonprofits, and businesses of all sizes affected by the wildfires and straight-line winds in California. Interest rates as low as 2.5% are available and payments are deferred for 12 months.
Homeowners may apply for up to $500,000 to replace or repair their primary residence.
Renters and homeowners may borrow up to $100,000 to replace or repair personal property — such as clothing, furniture, cars, and appliances — damaged or destroyed in a disaster.
These loans cover disaster losses not fully covered by insurance or other sources. Proceeds from insurance coverage on home or property may be deducted from the eligible loan amount.
SBA can refinance all or part of a previous mortgage in some cases, when the applicant does not have credit available elsewhere and has suffered substantial disaster damage.
⦿ LA County Household Relief Grants – Deadline March 12, 2025
The LA County Household Relief Grant provides immediate financial assistance to Los Angeles County residents who have been directly impacted by the 2025 Los Angeles County Eaton and Palisades fire and windstorm events bridging financial gaps and promotes the general welfare of affected households until insurance or government recovery resources become available. Grants are $6,000, $12,000 and $18,000, based on household size and composition and must be used for unmet needs not covered by other forms of assistance.
⦿ LA Wildfire Relief Small Business Grant – Deadline March 21, 2025
Any small business located in Los Angeles, in operation since December 1, 2024, and has been directly impacted by the fires is eligible to apply.
⦿ Phase 2 Clean Up ROE (Right of Entry) Opt-In/Out – Deadline March 31, 2025
Anyone with an Altadena property with destroyed structures needs to fill out and submit an ROE for the FEMA/Army Corps of Engineers led clean up, or an Opt-Out form to obtain a permit for an authorized contractor to manage private debris removal. The sooner you submit, the sooner you and your neighbors will have your properties cleared of toxic debris. Find the forms and a full FAQ on the County website.
Altadena Resident Impact Survey
If you haven't already, please be sure to complete the Altadena Resident Impact Survey! The survey for Altadena residents is comprehensive and aims to collect data on a number of points that we can use as we move forward from this crisis to help multiple groups and organizations shape a better Altadena. If you are an Altadena resident please take the time to complete the survey, share your experiences to date around the Eaton Fire, and please share this far and wide with all of your neighbors and friends who are also Altadena residents. This data is so very important and this is an impactful way for our voices to be heard loud and clear. This is a pro bono public interest research project being conducted by the local Future Organization. Those who were residents at the time of the Eaton Fire can complete the survey.
Our Residents Only Groups
Beyond being a moderated source of vetted information our private groups have become a 10k neighbor strong support and grief group, full of verified information and resources. If you’re on Facebook, request to join our neighbors only private group.
Next Time…
In our next Dispatch we’ll be talking about about some hot button issues in the neighborhood including the race to save our trees, how Greenline and other groups are working to keep Altadena properties for sale in the community, concerns over soil and water testing (or the lack thereof) and our potentially toxic future, the challenges of private debris removal, the widespread economic fallout of this historic disaster, and more. See you soon. xx
Where is the vigil?
Hi I need to comment on another topic, or perhaps Shawna you might post that I am in contact with an investigative reporter for KCAL and she would like to interview people who are upset that the post office will not hold our mail after April 14 and they are demanding we make other arrangements. Maybe they could reply to you and I could someone give them the details to contact KCAL. Thank you!
